History of BayFest
BayFest was begun in 1991 by Mayor J. E. Smith as a celebration at the end of the Desert Storm conflict torecognize local citizens and other Mississippians serving in the armed forces.
The first festival was a success and now in its thirty year in 2020, the event has matured into a first-class festival for the purpose of sharing and showcasing our community to tourists, businesses and industry and building self-esteem and pride among local citizens.
This year will marks the 30th Annual Bayfest. BayFest is always held the last weekend in May in the beautiful city of Bay Springs, Mississippi. Each year we set aside a day to bring the community together for some good ole fun, food, and some good music. If you attended Bayfest last year, we thank you. We hope to see you again every year we have Bayfest.
BayFest is a fun, four day festival with a great carnival in its, a wide variety of vendors and food, plus several evenings of free musical entertainment in our lovely Smith Park.
On Saturday, the Mayor conducts a continuous schedule of events for children, young and old to enjoy! A few of these are a sack race, watermelon and pie eating contests, log sawing contest, tomato throw, prettiest rooster contest and many more.
Monetary prizes are awarded to winners! It is a good time for all! These events have been maintained for many years, and we like having a large crowd on hand to enjoy the festivities.
We appreciate all of our sponsors and vendors each year who make BayFest possible.
